Getting Started
There are several ways to build a JSA extension. Pick the path that fits your style — they all get you to the same place.
Build with an AI coding agent (fastest)
Section titled “Build with an AI coding agent (fastest)”If you have access to Claude Code or another AI coding assistant, this is the fastest way to go from zero to a working extension. You’ll clone our getting-started repo, point your agent at it, and ask it to build something for you.

Hand-code a JS/HTML extension
Section titled “Hand-code a JS/HTML extension”Prefer to write code yourself? This tutorial walks you through creating a simple extension by hand — a manifest file, some HTML and JavaScript, zipped up and installed in SketchUp.

Develop with a local server
Section titled “Develop with a local server”If you want hot-reload and a faster feedback loop during development, you can point your extension’s manifest at a local dev server. This is great once you’re past the “hello world” stage and iterating on something real.
